The MDH Catskill Interpretive Center is one year old and has welcomed over 10,000 visitors since the doors opened. There are many new and exciting additions to the CIC underway: the opening of a new trail built by the volunteers from the NY/NJ Trail Conference under the coordination of Doug Senterman, the NY/NJ Trail Conference Catskills Coordinator. Opened in June this is the first new addition to what will include the installation of a real fire tower, a DEC Forest Ranger Station and an Amphitheater for outdoor entertainment and programs.
Over the past 12 months presentations by regional specialists including Bob and Joanna Titus, well known geologists and Dr. Michael Kudish, Catskill Forest Preserve and Old Growth Forest expert.
The CIC coordinator, Michael Drillinger coordinator the 1st Book Fair with speakers and authors/publishers of regional books: history, science and folklore. An event that drew crowds and requests for more events like this.
A favorite has been the Storytelling bonfires – complete with marshmallows and hot chocolate. Watch for the date of the next one! Visit: www.catskillinterpretivecenter.org
