Catskill Mountain Cycling Challenge to Support Children’s Cancer Recovery Foundation
The Catskill Recreation Center is pleased to announce that the second annual Catskill Mountain Cycling Challenge will take place on Sunday September 4. Cyclists can choose from one of four scenic routes (29, 55, 62, and 103 miles) in the beautiful Western Catskills. New this year, the 62-mile ride will feature the 26-mile unpaved Catskill Scenic Trail, and children’s activities will be held at CRC during the rides. All participating riders receive a free t-shirt, lunch, and day pass to CRC. www.catskillrecreationcenter.org
This year’s benefitting organization is the Children’s Cancer Recovery Foundation, headquartered in Harrisburg, PA. CCRF supports children under 18 and their families facing the hardships of cancer and performs acts of care and kindness through a series of programs. With a national pediatric hospital partner network of more than 210 locations, CCRF directly helps more than 16,000 children and their families every year (www.ChildrensCancerRecovery.org.) Jocelyn Davis, Executive Director at CCRF, graciously welcomes the support, “On behalf of CCRF and those we serve, thank you for helping us to carry out our programming with such a great event.”
The event’s partners also include Overlook Mountain Bicycles of Woodstock and the Catskill Revitalization Corporation. Overlook will again be supporting riders with refreshments and mechanical assistance, while the Catskill Revitalization Corp welcomes riders to the Catskill Scenic Trail, which appeals to “gravel grinder” enthusiasts as it rolls along the East and West Branches of the Delaware River. Says the Corp’s Executive Director Dave Riordan, “We are excited to partner with the Catskill Recreation Center, and I am sure this year’s event will build greater appreciation of the Catskill Scenic Trail, one of Delaware County’s greatest outdoor adventures.”
Entry fees for all rides are $40 until September 3; $45 the day of registration. Family members of riders may enjoy the CRC facilities at half price, which includes the use of an indoor pool and a fully equipped exercise room. Child care is also available for the 29-, 55-, and 62-mile rides. To register and view all event information, please visit http://catskillrecreationcenter.org/catskill-mountain-cycling-challenge. Riders are encouraged to enter the fundraising contest by downloading the pledge sheet from the website. Awards will be given to the top three fundraisers.
The Catskill Mountain Cycling Challenge is part of a series of ongoing events that celebrate the excitement of cycling in the region and support tourism. “We are thrilled to be able to bring cyclists together to enjoy the top-notch riding this region offers and to have the opportunity to assist the Children’s Cancer Recovery Foundation,” says Becky Manning, Executive Director of the Catskill Recreation Center.
