The Catskill Conservation Corps Offers: An Introduction to Map & Compass

Presenter will be Will Soter, NY S Licensed Guide and Assistant Director of Catskill Conservation Corps.

The Catskill Conservation Corp is a partnership between the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference and theNew York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The Conservation Corps invites outdoor enthusiasts of all ages to its event.

INTRODUCTION TO MAP & COMPASS

This free, one-day workshop

will introduce you to basic land navigation skills including blaze, map and

compass use. Participants will gain the ability to understand blazes and contour lines as well as understand triangulation and how to orient a map.

  • Learn how to read trail markers & blazes
  • Learn identify and use the feature of a map
  • Learn How to orient a map & plot a course
  • Understand & Adjust for declination

Demonstrations, discussions, and hands-on exercises will help you understand how to use these valuable tools to plan, and navigate your next adventure.

The workshop will be held rain or shine.
